Prof. Huang presented at the JOC/OL lectureship award symposium during the ACS meeting in San Francisco (2014).
The ACS Division of Organic Chemistry and Organic Letters are proud to announce Yong Huang, Peking University, as the winner of the 2014 Organic LettersOutstanding Author of the Year Lectureship Award. Dr. Huang was nominated for his work preparing nitriles directly from alcohols and aqueous ammonia under mild, aerobic catalysis. Dr. Huang was presented with an award at a symposium in his honor at the fall ACS National Meeting, August 10-14, 2014 in San Francisco, California.
Huang's article describes a general and practical protocol for the synthesis of nitriles using inexpensive and commercially available reagents. The aerobic dehydrogenation cascade reaction makes it possible to prepare heterocycles useful in the pharmaceutical industry in one pot under mild conditions.
